
Transportation in Phnom Penh
Phnom Penh relies heavily on river access via the Mekong Delta through Vietnam. The Phnom Penh Port serves as Cambodia’s traditional river port, connecting to the South China Sea via Vietnam.

Location & Accessibility
- Situated on the Tonle Sap River, about 3–4 km from its junction with the Mekong.
- Approximately 330 km from the mouth of the Mekong (100 km in Cambodia, remainder in Vietnam).
- About 1,450 km from Singapore.
Vessel Capacity
- Vessels up to 2,000 DWT easily.
- 5,000 DWT possible with dredging and favorable tides.
- Serves ~150 ships/year.
🏗️ Port Infrastructure
Phnom Penh’s cargo port comprises two main sites:
- Port No. 1:
- 184 m reinforced concrete pier.
- 3 pontoons, Berths 4 & 5 (2,000–4,000 DWT).
- 540 m pontoon capacity for river ships.
- 12 depots, Kilometer 6 warehouse complex (70,000 tons).
- 12 cranes (2×25-ton, 4×16-ton, 6×6.5-ton).
- Port No. 2:
- Two 45×10 m steel pontoons.
- Limited access due to bridges and water levels.
